Dock 3 Bluetooth LE setup

💡 Dock 3 requires Beta Firmware 2.4 or newer on Remote Two.

The Dock 3 communicates with the Remote over ethernet or WiFi. Bluetooth LE is used to configure a WiFi network (SSID and password) if ethernet is not connected.

If the Dock is connected to ethernet or has an active WiFi connection, the Bluetooth setup is not active. The Bluetooth setup is only active if it does not have a network connection.

  • Dock 3 is advertised with the name UCD3-###### where ##### is the last 3 octets of the MAC address.
  • The name is also shown on the Dock’s LCD screen during startup.

Setup with Bluetooth LE

The Dock 3 can be discovered and setup with the web-configurator or directly on the Remote. As an alternative setup method, one can use Improv Wi-Fi directly in a supported browser.

Web-configurator

See Add a new Dock in the Web Configurator on how to start the Dock setup in the web-configurator.

  1. Make sure that you have Bluetooth enabled on the Remote in Settings, Wifi & bluetooth.
  2. At the start of the Dock setup, leave the Bluetooth toggle switch on.

  3. In the discovered docks dialog, select the discovered dock. A dock discovered by Bluetooth is shown with a Bluetooth icon.
  4. In the settings screen enter a friendly name for the Dock and your WiFi network name (SSID) and password. Make sure that you use the same WiFi network as the Remote is using. Note: choosing a discovered WiFi network by the Remote is planned in a future update.

  6. If the dock could successfully connect to the WiFi network, it will restart and the Remote will try to connect to the Dock.

Wi-Fi improv

The Dock 3 supports the Improv Wi-Fi standard to configure WiFi on devices via BLE. The WiFi connection on Dock 3 can be configured directly in a compatible browser on the https://www.improv-wifi.com/ website, for example with Chrome on an Android tablet or phone.

💡 Chrome on macOS has a longstanding Web Bluetooth API bug, which prevents configuring the WiFi settings with Wi-Fi improv.

Firefox and Safari do not support the required browser BLE extensions.

  1. Click the Connect device to Wi-Fi button.
  2. Wait for the Dock to appear in the list. Select the dock and click Pair
